Welcome to the blog of the Psychiatry and Society lecture series for Final Year Medicine, University College Dublin, Ireland. This lecture series is intended to explore the connections and tensions between psychiatry and the wider social, cultural, economic and demographic context of society. The blog is intended to widen the discussion and debate into a public forum.

At first when I saw the picture I thought that she was fighting against the stigma against beauty pageants! I'm not really sure that becoming a beauty pageant queen does much to help fight against stigma since she'll be talking as a beauty pageant queen and not as a psychiatrist (at least that's what people will go to see)... Also, how many pageant contestants are taken seriously? The last one I remember seeing was a teen contestant on You Tube trying to explain why a large proportion of American's can't find The States on a map.
